Bald Eagle and True Fire Theme

Surface: Harley Davidson Electra Glide Fairing

Paints Used: Automotive base coat/clear coat

Instruments: Double action airbushes, both gravity and siphon feed. Touch-up gun, spray gun, acetate masks.

Duration: I didn't keep track but I would guess 6 hours airbrushing, half-hour clear coating, one hour buffing and polishing.

Cost: $900.00, fairing provided by customer.


step 1The first thing I do is spray the eagle's head with a yellowish/white mixture that I mix myself. I start loosely, filling in a large area and then tightening up the design as I go along. At this point I want to define the direction of the feathers, as well as the eyes and beak.

 

 

step 2Once I am satisfied with the overall composition I start adding color where neccesary. While I have some yellow paint mixed, I decide to get right into the background and start laying out the foundation for the fire. Even though I am using hand held masks at this time I still try to keep it loose.

 

 

step3At this point I've only used to colors. The yellowish/white mixture for the eagle'e face and yellow for the fire's foundation. I wanted to use orange but since I already had the yellow mixed I went ahead and shot a light coat of red kandy to give the illusion of orange...continued
